Ghaziabad Pioneers India’s First AI Ultrasound Center for Safer Pregnancies
Ghaziabad is set to launch Uttar Pradesh’s first AI-powered ultrasound center. This facility will be located at the District Women’s Hospital. The center aims to improve care for pregnant women. It will help identify delivery complications early. Free AI radiology services will guide doctors. This will aid in making crucial medical decisions. Decisions include normal delivery, C-section, or referral. The advanced AI will precisely map the baby’s position. This information is vital for safe births. The District Health Committee has approved the plan. This center will start as a pilot project. Success could lead to similar centers statewide. The main goal is to lower mother and infant deaths.
AI Ultrasound Center Details
Dr. Abhishek Tripathi, a radiologist, highlighted the center’s benefits. He is also the Acting Chief Medical Superintendent at the hospital. The center is a joint initiative by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Chief Development Officer (CDO). Currently, the hospital performs 60-70 ultrasounds daily. Plans are also in motion to offer free ultrasounds. This will be for pregnant women at 85 private centers. The e-RUPI scheme will facilitate this.
Health Department Statistics Highlight Need
Recent health reports underscore the importance of this initiative.
- In 2025, 28 women died during or after childbirth.
- This year, 14 women have already died.
- Causes of death are often unclear after audits.
- Over 3,000 pregnant women have high-risk pregnancies.
- In the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), 31 newborns died last year.
- This year, 29 newborns have died so far.
These figures show a clear need for improved maternal and infant care.
Future Expansion and Objectives
Dr. Akhilesh Mohan, the CMO, confirmed the AI ultrasound center plan. He stated the District Health Committee has given its approval. Medical equipment is expected within 15 days. The pilot project will run for three months under medical supervision. A report on its effectiveness will be sent to the government. This could lead to the establishment of similar centers across Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Mohan emphasized that these centers can significantly reduce maternal and infant mortality. The introduction of AI technology promises a brighter future for expectant mothers in Ghaziabad and beyond.
