Death Toll Rises in Blaze
Officials confirmed that ten patients died from their burn injuries. Seven patients died inside the ICU. Three others passed away while being moved to different hospital areas during the rescue.
The Chief Minister explained that a short circuit likely started the fire. It began in the trauma care ICU. Firefighters and hospital workers acted fast. They put out the fire and moved many patients to safety in other wards.
Chief Minister Majhi announced that families of those who died will receive ₹25 lakh. This is a payment to help them during this difficult time.
Staff Injured in Rescue Efforts
Around 23 hospital staff members helped with the rescue. They inhaled smoke and are now in the hospital for treatment. They are having trouble breathing.
Following the fire, Chief Minister Majhi ordered a full investigation. A judge will look into why the fire happened. He promised that anyone found responsible will face serious consequences.
Odisha Recovers from Recent Storm
This fire happened only one day after a strong storm hit Odisha. The storm struck the Mayurbhanj district. It caused two deaths and injured 17 people. More than 200 homes were damaged.
The storm, which was like a tornado, killed two people on National Highway-220. Five injured people were taken to Keonjhar Medical College.
