Hyderabad: A raid on a farmhouse on the outskirts of Hyderabad has led to the detention of several individuals, including a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Member of Parliament (MP) and a former Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA. Officials confirmed that MP Putta Mahesh Kumar and former MLA Pilot Rohit Reddy were among those questioned following allegations of drug consumption at a private party.
Farmhouse Party Under Scrutiny
The operation was carried out on Saturday night by the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) and the Cyberabad Police’s Special Operations Team (SOT). Acting on a tip-off about narcotic substances being used at a party in Aziznagar, Moinabad, the teams raided the location. The presence of politicians and businessmen at the gathering quickly drew official attention.
Drug Consumption Allegations Surface
R. Giridhar, Superintendent of Police for EAGLE, stated that the raid uncovered allegations of drug use. “During the weekend party, several politicians and businessmen were found allegedly consuming narcotic substances by the EAGLE team,” Giridhar reported. A rapid drug screening test was conducted on 11 individuals present. Six of these people tested positive for drug consumption. Among those who tested positive were a former MLA and a sitting Member of Parliament.
Individuals Who Tested Positive
Sources indicate that the individuals who tested positive include TDP MP Putta Mahesh Kumar and former BRS MLA Pilot Rohit Reddy. Also reportedly testing positive were Rohit Reddy’s brother, Ritesh Reddy, and a Delhi-based real estate businessman named Namit Mishra. The detention and subsequent testing highlight the seriousness of the allegations.
MP’s Statement on the Incident
Putta Mahesh Kumar, the TDP MP, has issued a statement regarding his involvement. He stated on social media, “I have done nothing wrong. People living in Hyderabad had invited me for dinner and I did nothing wrong there.” The MP’s statement asserts his innocence and suggests he was unaware of any illicit activities at the gathering.
Officials confirmed that the MP and seven other individuals were released after a few hours of questioning. The investigation into the drug party is ongoing, with authorities seeking to identify the source of the substances and any other individuals involved. The incident has raised concerns about drug abuse among public figures and business leaders in the region.
Ongoing Investigation
The EAGLE and SOT teams are continuing their investigation to gather more evidence and identify all parties involved in the alleged drug party. The focus remains on ensuring accountability and preventing future occurrences of such activities. The police have not yet released further details on the specific types of drugs allegedly consumed or the full extent of the investigation.
